Chicago Police Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy presented awards to exceptional officers at the monthly Departmental Commendation Ceremony. Officer Jacek Leja from the 06th District, pictured here with his daughter, was the recipient of the Lifesaving Award.

Harris and Almore were arrested and charged in connection to a shooting, which occurred at approx. 8:15 pm on January 18, 2014 in the 3100 block of W. Polk. Officers while on patrol observed shots being fired from a Grand Jeep Cherokee. Officers gave chase in their vehicle and arrested the offenders after they struck an iron fence. The victim of the shooting a male 23 years of age was transported to an area hospital for a gunshot wound to the right foot.

About the Crime:

On January 19, 2015, at approximately 1:54 am, a female was walking in the 1700 block of West Pierce when she was tackled to the ground from behind. The offender climbed on top of the victim, ripped her pants open and assaulted her. The victim began to scream for help, and subsequently heard a passerby verbally challenge the offender. The offender then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

On January 18, 2015, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers were called to the area 6600 block of S. Winchester after a complaint of dog fighting. Arriving officers observed four pit bulls with wounds consistent with dog fighting along with a dog fighting ring inside a residence. Above listed offenders were placed into custody and charged accordingly. Animal Care and Control took custody of the four injured pit bulls.

About the Crime:

This alert gives notice to the residents of the 11th District (Harrison) of two Robbery-Related incidents that have occurred in the month of January. In both incidents, the victim was seated in a parked vehicle when the crimes occurred. On January 15th, the offender struck the victim with fists and took the victim’s purse. On January 16th, the offender displayed a firearm and fled the scene without obtaining the victim’s purse.

About the Crime:

There have been Armed Robberies of food delivery drivers, mainly between the hours of 9:00 P.M. and 9:15 P.M. In these incidents anywhere from one male black and three male white Hispanics wearing a black wearing hooded sweatshirt, black skull caps are robbing the delivery drivers as they are walking to or leaving from their delivery destination. The same offender(s) have also committed two street Robberies.

The above offender was arrested and charged in connection to a fatal hit and run traffic accident that occurred on the 4300 block of W. North Avenue on January 17, 2015, at approximately 10:10 p.m. where two males were fatally wounded. The victims were walking across the street when the offender struck them in his vehicle and did not stop. The offender was subsequently taken into custody and charged accordingly.
