CHICAGO – Today, Chicago Police Department Interim Superintendent John J. Escalante and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, announced a renewed partnership in targeting violence and gangs that pose a threat to the City of Chicago.

The efforts include gun and narcotics investigations, traffic stops, identifying and arresting individuals with outstanding arrest warrants. Beginning Wednesday, efforts will be taking place in the Harrison (11th) and Austin (15th) Districts, covering much of Chicago’s western neighborhoods most affected by gang violence. This partnership will continue sporadically through the end of the month.

Interim Superintendent John Escalante presented awards today to outstanding officers at the Superintendent’s Monthly Departmental Commendation Ceremony. The event serves to recognize officers who have distinguished themselves and the Chicago Police Department by their exemplary behavior and praiseworthy deeds.

Steven Mc Kinnie, 27 , was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot two people in the 500 block of S. Lavergne on January 2, 2016, at approximately 4:50 a.m. Mc Kinnie was involved in a verbal dispute when he fired shots in the direction of two males. A 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the back and abdomen and was taken to Stroger in critical condition. The second victim, a male, 29, sustained four gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported in good condition to Stroger. Click here for additional information.

18 Jan 16 Sexual Abuse 9th District _HZ115040_

About the Crime:

This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 9th District of a recent Criminal

Sexual Abuse Incident.

On Thursday, January 14, 2016 at approximately 7:50 a.m. a juvenile female victim and her friend, were walking to the Evergreen School Northbound in the area of Paulina St. and 36th St. A male Hispanic who was walking Northbound on same side of Paulina St. approached the victim and her friend on foot and grabbed the victim in a sexually abusive manner and continued to walk Southbound on Paulina.

Offender:

Male Hispanic 35 – 40 years of age, 5’07 to 509″ tall, 170lbs, Dark

complexion, Black hair, Short spiky hair (a lot of gel), Round chubby face with

acne scars

Black Sunglasses, Green Scarf, Light brown or Khaki Knee Length Coat,

Dark Shiny Dress Shoes.

What you can do:

Always be aware of your surroundings

When possible, walk in pairs

Report suspicious activity immediately

Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth,

etc…)

Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police

If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information

Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible

Recent Armed Robberies have occurred on the public way in the 024th District during which one offender, who is armed with a black handgun, approaches the victim from behind and points the gun at the victim’s head while demanding that the victims give him everything they have. The offender took a purse, cell phones, and U.S.C. Incident times and locations are listed below:

This alert gives notice to residents in the 12th District of robbery related incidents that have occurred on Beats 1223 and 1225. In these incidents, two to three offenders approach the victim on the street and display a handgun. The offenders announce a robbery and take the victim’s personal property or vehicle. Incident times and locations are listed below:

  • 2300 block of W. Monroe on January 12, 2016 at approximately 7:00 A.M.
  • 200 block of S. Western on January 13, 2016 at approximately 1:00 P.M.
  • 2100 block of W. Maypole on January 15, 2016 at approximately 7:00 P.M.

About the offenders:

Two to three male blacks between 20-30 years of age, weighing between 150-190 lbs. armed with a handgun

This alert gives notice to residents in the 018th District of Burglary related incidents during the month of January. In these incidents, the offender(s) forced entry into an individual residential unit in a multi-unit building and removed property from within. These incidents have occurred in the early morning hours of the day.
