Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Interim Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson commemorated the graduation of 74 police recruits and 32 field training officers today in a ceremony at Navy Pier. This alert gives notice to citizens in the 8th District (Chicago Lawn) of robbery incidents which have occurred during the month of April. In these incidents, the offender(s) approach the victims, demand and forcibly remove their property.

•5900 Block of South Kolmar Avenue on April 7, 2016in the late evening hours
•5900 Block of South Kildare Avenue on April 7, 2016 in the late evening hours

On April 7, 2016 at approximately 8:00 a.m. in the 4600 block of S. Rockwell St., an unknown male attempted to lure two 13-year-old females and a 10-year-old male while they were walking to school. The male followed the children, made a sexual comment to the females offering them money for a sex act and grabbed the book bag of the boy who was able to pull away from the subject. Darren Berlin, a.k.a. Larry C. Tolliver, was arrested and charged after being identified as the offender who robbed an elderly 75-year-old female on the 3600 block of North Pine Grove Ave, at approximately 8:55 a.m., on March 27, 2016.  Click here for more information.

Rudy Williams, 34, was arrested after being identified as the man who was involved in a shooting incident on the 1200 block of E. 87th Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on April 6, 2016, during which a 29-year-old male was shot in the left wrist. Williams and another man became involved in an argument with the victim after they were denied entry into the club. Shortly thereafter, Williams returned with a handgun and shot the victim. South Chicago (4th) District Officers, who were near the scene, were able to apprehend the offender after a brief foot chase. A weapon was recovered on scene. The victim was taken to Trinity Hospital for treatment and was listed in good condition.

The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the South Chicago (4th) District at 9100 S. Stoney Island Ave. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Harrison (11th) District this weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016.

About the crime:

On April 04, 2016 at approximately 9:35 A.M. a pedestrian was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at 5900 S. Damen Ave. The 51 year old woman and her dog were struck by an unknown vehicle matching the below description.

About the vehicle:

Black in color, 4 door, possibly a Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle fled southbound on Damen Ave.
