While playing at a park on July 2, 2016, at approximately 6:55 p.m. on the 6200 block of
N. Normandy Ave a male eight-year-old’s baseball went over the fence onto Normandy
Avenue. The victim then climbed the fence to retrieve the ball. As the victim was doing
this, a green SUV that was traveling northbound on Normandy stopped. The unknown
male driver told the victim that he would give him a ride and offered candy. The victim
then ran back to the field and alerted family members who observed the vehicle go
northbound on Normandy and eastbound on Palatine.

The Chicago Police Department will be conducting DUI Strike Force Patrols in the Albany Park
(17th) District this upcoming weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Albany Park (17th)
District will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday,
July 10, 2016
The purpose of this program is to saturate a predesignated area with roving police officers
that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving. Patrols also place
emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations. Police vehicles equipped for
speed detection are deployed to apprehend speeding violators.
In addition, the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit may also be deployed to allow
officers to expedite the process of charging a person with Driving under the Influence (DUI)
prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding. The mobile unit also allows
for Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) to be issued at the site of the DUI Strike Force
Patrol.

The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the Shakespeare (14th)
District at North Ave. Albany. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday,
July 8, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016.
During roadside safety checks, police officers slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and
watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as noted below.
This program is conducted year round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely. This is
part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago’s residents and commuters.

Markus Spires was arrested after being identified as the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal traffic crash that occurred on July 3, 2016, at approximately 4:33 a.m. on the 7800 block of S. Loomis. Spires struck a vehicle occupied by a 30-year-old female who died as a result of injuries suffered during the crash. Spires was taken into custody and charged accordingly.

Giovanni Hernandez, 18, was arrested on July 3, 2016 at 7:45 p.m. in connection to a shooting that occurred on the 2700 Block of S. Pulaski Ave. on February 15, 2016. Hernandez was positively identified as the person who shot the 18-year-old male victim several times with a handgun. Arresting officers had knowledge that the offender was wanted in connection with this crime and responded to the 2300 block of South Troy St, where the offender was located. He was arrested and charged accordingly.

This alert gives notice to Residential Burglaries that occurred recently on Beat 2525 in the 025th District. There have been 3 burglaries to residences in which the offender(s) entered the residence by entering a side or rear window and removed property.

Earlier this morning, at approximately 9:45 a.m., an off-duty Chicago Police Officer was driving on the 3500 block of North Damen Ave when he observed a female motorist open her car door in the path of a 21 year old male cyclist. The cyclist collided with the car door with significant force, causing a laceration to his neck. The officer immediately stopped to render aid and, seeing that the victim was losing a large amount of blood from his wound, was able to utilize his specialized training to apply pressure to the cyclist’s neck with a bandage and stemmed the bleeding until Chicago Fire Department personnel could arrive on scene.

The injured cyclist was subsequently taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition. The traffic crash remains under investigation.

Ricky Dortch was arrested on June 30, 2016 in connection to a murder that occurred on the 3000 block of W. Van Buren on August 26, 2015, at approximately 10:35 a.m. The offender was positively identified as the person who played a key role in assisting in the murder of a male victim, 23, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and another male victim, 22, who sustained a gunshot wound to the back.   Click here for more information.

CPD Conducts Another Successful Gang Raid Heading into the Holiday Weekend Continuing its work to fight crime and hold gang members accountable going into the 4th of July weekend, the Chicago Police Department concluded its second consecutive raid against violent criminal street gangs late Friday. 88 individuals were arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges. Of those, 55 were convicted felons and 16 of them were currently serving sentences on parole for earlier crimes. 8 firearms were seized during the operation and 20 search warrants were executed across the 11th and 15th Districts. Of the 88 offenders arrested, 76 are on CPD’s Strategic Subject List. Click here for more information.
