This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 1st (Central) District of robbery related incidents during the months of August and September. Offenders are confronting citizens on the sidewalk, displaying a semi- automatic handgun and demanding cell phones, wallets or contents of purses. Offenders are then
demanding that victims unlock their cellphones and reset their settings to factory status. Offenders are also threatening violence, demanding PIN numbers of victim’s bank cards. For More Information Click Here

CPD Officers Render Aid to Fifty-Four Year Old Man Attempting Suicide

CHICAGO – On Saturday, September 10th, at approximately 12:29 p.m., Chicago Police Officer

Fernando Flores and partners were dispatched to a call of a man threating suicide at the 2700

Block of West Montrose. Upon arrival they observed a male standing on top of the bridge which

crosses the river, threatening to jump. The officers immediately developed a rapport with the man

and engaged him in conversation. Their communication skills helped to calm the man until other

assisting units arrived on scene. As the Fire Department arrived the man loosened his grip from

the bridge, the officers with the help of the fire department jumped into action and returned the

man to safety.

The male victim was subsequently taken to Swedish Covenant hospital where he is currently

undergoing psychological evaluation.

This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 009th District (Deering) of burglary related incidents which have occurred during the month of August.  In these incidents, offender(s) gained entry into residences by pushing in the window air conditioner or through the front door and took property from therein.

Phillip M. Levato was arrested after he was identified as the man who caused the death of a 45-year-old male in the 3000 block of S. Normal Avenue on July 22, 2016 at approximately 11:45 p.m. After a verbal altercation, Levato battered the victim causing him to fall and strike his head on the pavement. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Levato turned himself into police custody and he was charged accordingly. No further information is available at this time.

On August 28, 2016, at approximately 3:13 p.m., 8th District (Chicago Lawn) Officers were on routine patrol in the vicinity of the 5800 block of S. Maplewood Ave., when they heard shots fired. As officers approached to investigate, Rivers fled and a foot pursuit ensued. Rivers pointed a handgun in the direction of an Officer. The officer, in fear for his life, discharged his weapon. Rivers was not struck and was taken into custody. A weapon was recovered on scene. Rivers was charged accordingly.
