ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECK – CALUMET (5th) DISTRICT
The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the Calumet (5th) District
at 11800 S. Halsted. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday,
December 2, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
During roadside safety checks, police officers slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and
watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as noted below.
This program is conducted year round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely. This is
part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago’s residents and commuters.
The Roadside Safety Check conducted in the Shakespeare (14th) District at North Avenue and
Albany Avenue, on October 14-15, 2016 resulted in the following:

30-nov-16-attempt-luring-008th-dist-hz5322991On November 28, 2016 at approximately 5:00 PM an unknown male black riding in the passenger seat of a 1989 Black Chevrolet Caprice attempted to lure (1) a juvenile female into his vehicle. The unknown male driver pulled the above described vehicle next to the female juvenile, and then unknown male passenger then stated to the victim “Come over here and get in the car.” This incident occurred on the 4500 Block of W. 81ST ST.

About This Crime
This alert gives notice to businesses operating in the above Area North districts of several
armed robberies of Grocery/Drug style stores. During these incidents, the offender entered
the store, approached the cashier and demanded currency from the register, while armed
with a handgun.
About the Offender(s)
The offender is described as a male, Hispanic, between the ages of 25-45 years old. He is
between 5’08”-5’11” tall and weighing 180-230lbs. The offender has brown hair and eyes.
He was wearing a tan Carhartt style jacket, with a black hooded sweatshirt, and cargo style
pants.

These incidents have occurred in the overnight hours between 8:00pm- 02:00 a.m. These
incidents have occurred on beats 1921, 1925 and 2433
6100 block of N. Broadway on 26 Nov 2016 at 04:19am and 7:40pm
3200 block of N. Broadway on 27 Nov 2016 at 01:28am
3400 block of N. Western on 27 Nov 2016 at 01:50am

• Be aware of this pattern crime and alert your friends and family about these crimes.
• Employees should call 911 to report any suspicious persons lingering around their
business.
• Business owners should ensure that their business is equipped with working video
surveillance system and hold up alarm.
• Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offender(s), including any
vehicle description and license plate information, as well as direction of flight, if known.

About the Crime:
This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 002nd District (Wentworth) of robbery
related incidents which occurred during the month of November. In these incidents,
the offenders approached the victims on the sidewalk, produced a handgun and then
demanded property from the victims, prior to fleeing the area. These incidents have
occurred in the geographical locations listed below:
Incident times and locations:
300 Block of E. Garfield Blvd. on November 27, 2016 at 6:40 pm.
5600 Block of S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on November 27, 2016 at 6:50 pm.
About the Offenders:
2-6 Male blacks, 25 years of age, 5’08” – 6’00″, 180 – 200 lbs, dark complexion. One
offender was described as having dreadlocks.
What you can do:
• Always be aware of your surroundings
• Report suspicious activity immediately
• If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
• Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth,
etc…)
• Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
• If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
• Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible

About This Crime
On November 21, 2016, at approximately 6:00 p.m., two juvenile females, ages 10 and 14 were playing outside in the 4000 block of W. Wabansia when an unknown driver of a green or blue vehicle pulled along the curb and motioned with his hands for the girls to come closer. When the girls approached the vehicle, the offender told them to get in so he could take them to the store.
