Juvenile Offender Charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking
Statement regarding the Superintendent meeting with City Council Members
Earlier this afternoon, Superintendent David O. Brown met with City Council members representing the 16th Police District. Within the past few days, there has been considerable misinformation regarding staffing in the 16th District and in districts citywide. Through discussion Superintendent, Brown shared with the Council members the facts about the Department’s staffing levels, plans, and deployment strategies based on staffing models developed by CPD. This was a productive discussion and we will continue to work alongside City Council members across the city.
Police departments across the nation are seeing increased retirements. While we are not immune at CPD, we are actively recruiting and hiring new police officers. We also recently created a unit dedicated to recruitment and retention to lead this effort. As we ramp up our recruitment efforts, we continue to focus on resource allocation to safeguard Chicago, which is and will always be our top priority.
