Cellular phone users can now call 911 from anywhere in the City and be connected to Chicago’s leading-edge emergency center.

Chicago’s Emergency Communications Center now has full cellular 911 capability. This comes as a result of a cooperative effort by Ameritech Cellular, all other major cellular companies, and the City of Chicago. It marks yet another advancement in public safety.

“We have been able to accept most incoming cellular calls, but the system upgrades just installed give us full cellular coverage,” said Glen Funk, the Center’s director. “with the cooperation of the leading wireless companies, we are providing a service that continues to meet this system’s goal — increasing public safety.”

Remember, 911 is to be called in emergency situations only. To report any non-emergencies, please call 3-1-1.
