CHICAGO – Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson today announced additional changes to his
leadership team that will be responsible for crime control, investigative, and operational functions. The
moves, which focus primarily on area and district level positions, have been made as part of his pledge to
rebuild trust between the Department and the community, while focusing on the need to hold offenders
accountable for their actions.
Superintendent Johnson Announces Leadership Team Changes to Support Promise to Rebuild Trust and Reduce Violence
CHICAGO – Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson today announced changes to his
senior leadership team at the Police Department who will be responsible for crime control,
investigative and operational functions. The moves address vacancies for two of the highest
ranking positions at the department resulting from the announcement by First Deputy
Superintendent John Escalante earlier this week that he is retiring from the Department to accept
the Chief of Police position at Northeastern Illinois University, and the upcoming age-related
mandatory retirement of Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy. To fill these critical roles, Johnson
today announced the promotions of Deputy Chief Kevin Navarro to First Deputy Superintendent
and Deputy Chief of Melissa A. Staples to Chief of Detectives.
CPD DUI STRIKE FORCE PATROL – AUSTIN (15th) DISTRICT
The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Austin (15th) District this weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016.

On Saturday night, 6 August 2016, the Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the 006th District. The Patrol will commence on Saturday night, 6 August 2016 at 1900 hours and end Sunday at 0300 hours, 7 August 2016.
CPD News Release- Roadside Safety Check in the Chicago Lawn (8th) District
The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a Roadside Safety Check in the 008th District at 7055 W. Archer Ave. The Roadside Safety Check will begin at 1900 hours on Friday night, 5 August 2016 and end at 0300 hours on Saturday, 6 August 2016.
CPD NEWS RELEASE: DUI Strike Force Patrol- Deering (9th) District
The Chicago Police Department will be conducting DUI Strike Force Patrols in the Deering (9th) District this upcoming weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Deering (9th) District will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
The purpose of this program is to saturate a pre-designated area with roving police officers that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving. Patrols also place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations. Police vehicles equipped for speed detection are deployed to apprehend speeding violators.
In addition, the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit may also be deployed to allow officers to expedite the process of charging a person with Driving under the Influence (DUI) prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding. The mobile unit also allows for Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) to be issued at the site of the DUI Strike Force Patrol.
CPD NEWS RELEASE: Roadside Safety Check- Grand Central (25th) District
The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the Grand Central (25th) District at 4555 W. North Ave. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016.
During roadside safety checks, police officers slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as noted below.
This program is conducted year round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely. This is part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago’s residents and commuters.
CPD COMMUNITY ALERT- Seeking to Identify for Homicide 011th District
Area North Detectives are seeking to identify these individuals who were involved in a Homicide which occurred on April 7, 2016 at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the 3400 block of W. Chicago Ave. During this incident, the offenders approached the victims on foot and one offender displayed a handgun and fired several shots. A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were struck and fatally wounded.
CPD COMMUNITY ALERT- Wanted for Attempted Child Abduction 005th District
This alert gives notice to the residents of the 005th District (Calumet) of an Attempted Child Abduction that occurred on July 11, 2016 at approximately 9:15 a.m. on the 13400 block of South Indiana. The juvenile victim was on his way to summer school when a newer model Jeep pulled curbside and demanded that the victim get into the vehicle. The victim got into the offenders vehicle and the offender drove east on 134th street and then pulled into an alley. When the offender attempted to sexually assault the victim, he made good his escape and advised his parents of the incident.
