On Wednesday June 6th, 2018 at approximately 8:15 p.m., 2nd District Tactical
Officers were conducting a narcotics investigation in the 300 Block of East 47th St. Officers
responded to the area at which point the offender fled on foot prompting officers to give chase.
Responding officers commanded him to stop at which point the man produced a weapon and
an armed encounter between the offender and police ensued. An officer discharged his
weapon fatally striking the offender. The man was transported to an area hospital where he
succumbed to his wounds. A weapon was recovered at the scene. A Sergeant was taken to

Today, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante announced the additional six police districts that will soon be part of the Chicago Police Department’s expanded body-worn camera program.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry McCarthy today announced that the City is accepting applications to join the Chicago Police Department for the first time since  2013. The starting salary for Chicago police officers is $47,604 and increases to $72,510 after eighteen months of employment. The application period is now open, and will close at the end of the day on Wednesday December 16, 2015. A written exam will be administered in February 2016 to those who apply.
