Thank you for visiting the Chicago Police Department’s public comment forum for the Unity of Command (UOC) and Span of Control (SOC) policy. This directive requires that there will be no more than ten officers assigned to a single sergeant in District Law Enforcement Units (SOC). Additionally, the directive outlines a new staffing model designed to ensure that supervisors and the officers assigned to them have the same start times, the same days off and, patrol the same geographic areas regularly (UOC). Paragraphs 357 through 368 of the Consent Decree require the Department to develop a staffing model to achieve the principles of unity of command and span of control. CPD created this directive to address these requirements.

This public comment period is now closed, and CPD will consider public comments before finalizing the policy. Below you will find the draft of the Unity of Command and Span of Control policy. Thank you again for your continued partnership in building a safer Chicago.
