A Better CPD For Everyone

The Chicago Police Department is on the road to reform.

For nearly two years, CPD has worked with Chicagoans, our members, national experts, and police departments across the country to develop a series of best practices that will allow us to make this Department better for everyone.

Making CPD better will mean safer streets, safer police officers, and stronger community trust through professionalism, accountability, and transparency to those we serve.

Through meaningful reforms, we will provide higher quality training and more resources to CPD officers, and set the highest professional standards to ensure that we put on display every day our commitment to positive change and lasting partnerships with residents.

This website will help navigate the reforms we have already implemented and are currently working on, as outlined in our Next Steps for Reform framework, and the findings of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Making CPD a better agency goes beyond just implementing reforms. It also means changing the way we do business, so this site will also outline the investments we are making to forever change the face of policing in Chicago.

To help manage these wide-ranging reform efforts, CPD has been working with the Civic Consulting Alliance to provide project management and strategy support. CCA is an independent, non-profit organization that works, on a pro-bono basis, to support government agencies taking on large-scale change efforts.

With the help of pro bono partners Accenture, West Monroe Partners, AT Kearney and The Boston Consulting Group, Civic Consulting has created a project management system that enables CPD to keep track of progress on all its reform initiatives, assign ownership of key deliverables and raise issues to leadership as they arise. CPD is grateful to the entire team at Civic Consulting and their pro bono partners for this collaboration.
