On 3 Sep 15 at 2:48 A.M., a 27 year old female victim was standing with friends in the 1600 block of West 115th Street when the above offender approached the group and fired a handgun several times. The victim was taken in critical
condition to Christ Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

About these crimes:

On August 26, 2015, there were numerous reports of catalytic converters thefts from vehicles located in the Beverly & Morgan Park neighborhoods (9900-11700 S. Campbell – Washtenaw). Most of the targeted vehicles appear to be small to mid-size SUVs. The thefts occurred between 12:00am and 5:30am. Pictured above is a catalytic converter. After cutting them off of cars, the converters are usually taken to junk yards and could be worth up to several hundred dollars.

About the offenders:

Victims & witnesses reported observing two male African American subjects dressed in hooded sweatshirts committing these thefts. The offenders were driving in a black Mercedes sedan with Illinois Dealer plates.

Juvone Steele was arrested after he was identified as the person who shot a 20 year old man in the 12200 block of S. Normal Ave., on August 3, 2015 at approximately 4:00 p.m. The 20 year old man sustained gunshot wounds to
the right leg and a graze wound to the head. He was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. Steel was arrested and charged accordingly. No further information is available at this time.

An offender was arrested in connection to the death of a 13-month-old child on July 11, 2015. Officers observed Watkins in a vehicle fitting the description of a wanted offender’s vehicle from a fatal shooting that occurred on the 7700 block of S. Kingston Ave. at approx. 1:45 pm on the above date. Watkins then fled in the vehicle and struck a 13-month-old male, who was in a stroller on the sidewalk, in the 6300 block of S. Two male juveniles have been arrested and charged with the shooting of 2 men on June 12, 2015. This incident occurred on the 13200 block of S. Vernon at approximately 10:30 p.m. Both male victims, ages 61 and 21, were inside of a residence when shots were fired from a passing vehicle. The victims both sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and both were taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. Officers were able to arrest the offenders a short distance away. The juveniles were charged accordingly as adults. No further information is available at this time.

The Chicago Police Department’s Animal Crimes Team, executed a dog fighting related search warrant on Juan Zamora’s residence on June 4, 2015 at approximately 11:45 a.m. Officers recovered 10 pit bull dogs that were living in deplorable conditions. The animals were turned over to Animal Care and Control for treatment. Zamora, 49 was not on scene during the search warrant and turned himself in to CPD on June 8, 2015. Zamora was charged accordingly.
