The consent decree outlines a series of requirements for the department’s training, review of use of force incidents and the implementation of policies and practices.

As part of our commitment to the consent decree, the department has implemented use of force policies identifying force techniques, technologies, and weapons that our officers are authorized to use.

Consistent with CPD’s core principle of protecting the sanctity of life, if an individual is injured during a department member’s use of force, officers are required to render lifesaving aid until medical professionals arrive on scene.

CPD will establish and maintain clear channels through which community members can provide input on the department’s use of force policies and will be able to propose revisions or additions to those policies.
