Giovanni Garcia, 20 was arrested in connection to a fatal shooting incident that occurred on the 5400 block of S. Karlov on April 8, 2016 at approximately 7:00 p.m. during which he shot a 23-year-old female victim while she was seated in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she was later pronounced.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Interim Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson are announcing that more than 450 body cameras are being shipped to Chicago this week as part of the Chicago Police Department’s body-worn camera pilot program.

Once training is complete, the cameras will be worn by officers and supervisors on all three watches in seven police districts participating in the pilot program. The cameras will be able to record audio and video, and save up to 72 hours on a single charge in high-definition. The first phase of the camera program has been successfully underway in the Shakespeare Police District, and now will expand to Austin, Wentworth, Deering, Ogden, South Chicago, and Gresham – covering one-third of the city.

13Feb16025AttemptChildLuringCommunity Alert On February 8, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m., two female juvenile victims were walking east bound on the 6300 block of West Barry Ave. The victims observed a vehicle that was parked in front of Steinmetz High School. As the victims walked past the vehicle, the passenger of the vehicle asked them “do you need a ride?” The victims continued to walk north bound on Mobile Ave towards Belmont Ave. The driver of the vehicle then asked “do you want to make some money?” The victims in fear for their safety then fled the area and immediately reported the incident to their parents. The unknown offenders then fled east bound on Barry Ave.

04Feb16Community Alert 16thdistrictAttemptChildLuringOn January 21, 2016 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a male juvenile victim was walking home in the 5600 block of North McVicker. The victim became aware that a vehicle was following him. The juvenile victim began to jog away. The vehicle driver sped up and was adjacent to the victim. The offender was seated on the front passenger side of the vehicle. The passenger offender shouted to the victim in a loud tone “Get over here” placing him in fear for his safety. The victim ran to his residence and alerted his parents who called 911.

This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 002nd District (Wentworth) of attempted burglary incidents which have occurred during the month of January. In these incidents, offender(s) gained entry by prying open the front door of apartments and then removed property from therein.
