This alert gives notice to the residents in the 008th District (Chicago Lawn) of robbery incidents which have occurred during the month of September. In these incidents, the offender approaches a victim/enters a store, produces a handgun and demands property from the victim.

ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECK – GRAND CROSSING (3rd) DISTRICT

 The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the Grand Crossing (3rd) District at 7424 S. Stony Island. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

During roadside safety checks, police officers slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as noted below.

This program is conducted year round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely.

This is part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago’s residents and commuters.

The Roadside Safety Check conducted in the South Chicago (4th) District at Baltimore &

Brainard, on September 16-17, 2016 resulted in the following:

Driving Under the Influence 3

Unsafe Vehicle Violations 10

Driver’s License Violations 12

Insurance Violations 10

Traffic Violations (Other) 16

Total Citations 51

Other Arrests 0

Vehicles Towed 9

This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 009th District (Deering) of burglary related incidents which have occurred during the month of September. In these incidents, offender(s) gained entry into garages/residences through the side/rear door and removed property from therein.

Incident #1:  On September 6, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. a student at Loyola University was walking in the 6500 block of N. Kenmore when she felt somebody touch her buttocks from behind.  When the victim turned she observed the offender ride in a northwesterly direction on a bicycle.

Incident #2:  On September 7, 2016 at 9:05 a.m. a faculty member from Loyola University was walking alone to work at approximately 1600 W. Greenleaf when an unknown male approached her from behind on a bicycle and grabbed her buttocks.  The offender then fled in an unknown direction.

Incident #3:  On September 7, 2016 at 12:30 a.m. a student at Loyola University was walking home from the school library at approximately 6300 block of N. Winthrop when she was approached from behind by the offender who was riding a bicycle.  As the offender approached her, he touched her buttocks.  The offender then rode by her a second time and touched her breast. The offender then fled northbound on Winthrop on the bicycle.

Incident #4:  On September 18, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. a student at Loyola University was walking on the 6300 block of N. Winthrop when she passed two male subjects leaning on the fence in front of one of the school’s buildings.  One of the two males walked up to her and touched her buttocks.  The males then walked away from the area.

This alert gives notice to residents of the 012th District (Near West) and 010th District (Ogden) to fires which have been set in the alleyways, specifically on beat 1234 and beat 1034. In these incidents, unknown offender(s) have ignited available materials contained within the garbage cans and/or bulk items left in the alley.  In some cases, the fire has communicated to the garages and or residences.
