This alert gives notice to the residents of the 16th District (Jefferson Park) of several garage burglaries that have occurred in the month of January. In these incidents, unknown offender(s) have entered garages by forcibly opening side doors or through unlocked doors.

CHICAGO – Today, Chicago Police Department Interim Superintendent John J. Escalante and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, announced a renewed partnership in targeting violence and gangs that pose a threat to the City of Chicago.

The efforts include gun and narcotics investigations, traffic stops, identifying and arresting individuals with outstanding arrest warrants. Beginning Wednesday, efforts will be taking place in the Harrison (11th) and Austin (15th) Districts, covering much of Chicago’s western neighborhoods most affected by gang violence. This partnership will continue sporadically through the end of the month.

The event serves to recognize officers who have distinguished themselves and the Chicago Police Department by their exemplary behavior and praiseworthy deeds.

Steven Mc Kinnie, 27 , was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot two people in the 500 block of S. Lavergne on January 2, 2016, at approximately 4:50 a.m. Mc Kinnie was involved in a verbal dispute when he fired shots in the direction of two males. A 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the back and abdomen and was taken to Stroger in critical condition. The second victim, a male, 29, sustained four gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported in good condition to Stroger. Click here for additional information.

Recent Armed Robberies have occurred on the public way in the 024th District during which one offender, who is armed with a black handgun, approaches the victim from behind and points the gun at the victim’s head while demanding that the victims give him everything they have. 14th District (Shakespeare)

About the Crime:

This alert gives notice to businesses operating and citizens frequenting the 014th

(Shakespeare) District of recent armed robberies to small. In these incidents,

offenders entered the stores and robbed them at gunpoint. In each of the incidents, the

windows to the storefront were obscured by signage and posters, preventing the store

employees from seeing outside and preventing anyone from seeing what was happening

inside. These incidents have occurred during the evening hours in the general location listed

below:

Incident times and locations:

3100 block of N. Central Park on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 8:24 PM;

2800 block of W. Belmont on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 8:32 PM;

2700 block of W. Armitage on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:09 PM;

About the Offenders:

Two Male, Hispanic, wearing black ski masks, black coats, and black pants.

Offenders wore black gloves and displayed a handgun.

Two Male, blacks dressed in black hooded sweatshirts and black jeans. Both

offenders wore black or red gloves and displayed a handgun.

What you can do:

Be aware of these incidents and inform fellow citizens and business owners

Report suspicious activity immediately to 911.

If you are confronted by an assailant, remain calm.

Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, tattoos, missing teeth, etc.),

clothing and vehicle descriptions such as make, model, color and license plate

number.

Businesses should have working alarms and video surveillance systems covering

inside and outside. Consideration should be given to having storefronts clear of

signage so that persons entering can be seen.
