This alert gives notice to business community of the 007th District (ENGLEWOOD) of armed robberies involving similarly described offenders. In each incident, the offenders entered the business. A firearm was produced and the stores were robbed.
CPD News Release- Superintendent Johnson Announces Additional Command Staff Changes to Keep Communities Safe and Build Stronger Partnerships
CHICAGO – Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson today announced additional changes to his
leadership team that will be responsible for crime control, investigative, and operational functions. The
moves, which focus primarily on area and district level positions, have been made as part of his pledge to
rebuild trust between the Department and the community, while focusing on the need to hold offenders
accountable for their actions.
North Lawndale Man Charged with Murder
Welch was arrested on August 16, 2016 on the 3700 block of W. Roosevelt Rd. at approximately 6:50 p.m. after being identified as the offender who fired shots after a verbal argument on the 1600 block of S. Springfield Ave. on August 14, 2016 at approximately 10:45a.m. Welch fired shots at a 34 year-old male and struck a pregnant 35 year old female in the chest with gunfire. The female was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition where the child was delivered and pronounced. Welch was charged accordingly.
Superintendent Johnson Announces Leadership Team Changes to Support Promise to Rebuild Trust and Reduce Violence
CHICAGO – Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson today announced changes to his
senior leadership team at the Police Department who will be responsible for crime control,
investigative and operational functions. The moves address vacancies for two of the highest
ranking positions at the department resulting from the announcement by First Deputy
Superintendent John Escalante earlier this week that he is retiring from the Department to accept
the Chief of Police position at Northeastern Illinois University, and the upcoming age-related
mandatory retirement of Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy. To fill these critical roles, Johnson
today announced the promotions of Deputy Chief Kevin Navarro to First Deputy Superintendent
and Deputy Chief of Melissa A. Staples to Chief of Detectives.
CPD DUI STRIKE FORCE PATROL – AUSTIN (15th) DISTRICT
The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Austin (15th) District this weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016.

The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Town Hall (19th) District this weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

CPD Community Alert- Robberies in the 4th District
This alert gives notice to residents of the South Chicago (004th) District of two recent robberies that occurred along 87th Street between Phillips and Colfax Avenues. In each incident, the victims were either riding a CTA bus or had just exited a CTA Bus when they were approached by the offender(s) who battered and robbed them.
Convicted Felon Charged With Weapons Possession
The above offender was the target of a search warrant executed by Narcotics Division Officers on August 15, 2016 at approximately 4:10 p.m. on the 200 block of N. Kostner Avenue. Officers made entry into Jenkin’s residence and conducted a systematic search of the premise which led to the discovery of five handguns, including a Colt 357 Magnum Revolver. Officers also recovered cash and quantity of suspect cannabis. Jenkins was placed into custody and charged accordingly.
