Melvin Atto was arrested in connection to an armed robbery that occurred on March 6th, 2015, on the 6700 block of North California Ave at approx. 2:31 am. He was charged after being identified as the male offender, who while armed with a knife, robbed and attacked a 32 year old male taxi driver. During the robbery, the victim sustained lacerations to his right arm and left leg and was transported to St. Francis in stable condition. Atto was arrested March 7th, 2015 on the 5900 block of North Sacramento Ave at 10:30 am. He is scheduled to appear in Central Bond Court this afternoon.
Indian Head Park Man Charged with Home Invasion
Joseph Benson, 23, was arrested and charged after an incident which occurred on March 7, 2015 at approximately 2:00 a.m. on the 2600 block of N. Mildred Avenue. Police responded to a disturbance and arrived to discover the offender had forced his way into a residence and attacked a 41-year-old male victim while purporting to be a police officer. Benson was placed into custody and charged accordingly.
Douglas Man Charged in Shooting 16 Year Old Boy
Lawrence Longstreet, 19, was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot a 16 year old boy in the 6200 block of S. Cottage Grove on February 16, 2015 at approximately 1:15 p.m. The victim was taken in serious condition to the University of Chicago with a gunshot wound to the back. No further information is available at this time.
Back of the Yards Man Charged in January Shooting
David Ochoa, 20, was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot two females on January 23, 2015, at approximately 10:20 p.m., in the 4400 block of S. Marshfield. A 21 year old female was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the leg. The second victim, a female 20, had a graze wound to the hand and buttocks and refused treatment on the scene. Ochoa was charged accordingly. No further information is available at this time.
Offender Wanted for Hit and Run: 9th District
On March 6, 2015, at 05:06 A.M., a motorist was seriously injured, while travelling south on Wentworth Avenue at 47th Street, when she was struck by a Silver Blue Semi-Truck with No Trailer Attached at the intersection of 47th and Wentworth Ave. The wanted vehicle was traveling west on 47th Street just prior to the hit/run incident and then continued north on Wentworth Ave, going the wrong direction on a one way street before turning off onto Swann Street heading west.
Community Alert: Attempted Child Luring in the 8th District
On March 07, 2015 at approximately 12:15 PM, an unknown male attempted to lure a female minor into his vehicle. The female youth refused and ran away. The offender at this time fled in the vehicle. This incident occurred in the vicinity of the 7100 S Mozart Ave.
