The Chicago Police Department will be conducting a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Near West (12th) District this weekend. The DUI Strike Force Patrol will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 and end at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016.

The purpose of this program is to saturate a pre-designated area with roving police officers that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving. Patrols also place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations. Police vehicles equipped for speed detection are deployed to apprehend speeding violators.

In addition, the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit may also be deployed to allow officers to expedite the process of charging a person with Driving under the Influence (DUI) prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding. The mobile unit also allows for Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) to be issued at the site of the DUI Strike Force Patrol.

Donald Williams, 19, Niko Hines, 23, and Raven Gillespie, 30, were arrested on April 12, 2016, after officers curbed their vehicle on the 0-100 blk of N. Homan Ave. at approximately 12 a.m., which matched the description of one used in multiple armed robberies in the 12th District.  Williams fled on foot from the vehicle but was apprehended without incident a short distance away.  Hines was in possession of narcotics and all three offenders were in possession of a firearm.  Area Central Detectives were able to positively identify Williams and Hines as the offenders who performed two separate Armed Robberies on the 2300 blk of W. Monroe on April 1, 2016, in the early morning hours depriving the male victims (67, 59, 60) of money shortly after they made a withdrawal from an ATM.  All three offenders were charged accordingly.
