This alert gives notice to citizens of the 018th District (Near North) of an increase in Robbery related incidents during the month of April. In these incidents, an unknown offender approaches a lone victim on a CTA train and forcibly removes personal property from the victim. These incidents have occurred in the early morning hours in the general geographical locations listed below:

Incident times and locations:

  • 900 Block of W. Fullerton on April 12, 2016 in the early morning hours
  • 1600 Block of N. Clybourn on April 21, 2016 in the early morning hours

On April 26, 2016, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a female juvenile was walking home from school (Roosevelt H.S.). As the juvenile reached the 4500 block of North St. Louis Avenue, the driver of a White Jeep vehicle pulled up alongside the curb next to the juvenile. The unknown male driver honked his horn and through the passenger side motioned for the juvenile to come over to the car. The juvenile ignored the unknown males request and kept walking away which angered the unknown male who kept blowing his horn at the juvenile. The unknown male continued to follow the juvenile another block placing the juvenile in fear for her safety. The juvenile stopped into a store in the 3500 block of West Montrose where 911 was called. The unknown driver waited outside the store for a few minutes then fled westbound on Montrose.

The robberies happen very early in the morning. In each case, the offenders approach the victim on the sidewalk, and the first offender points a handgun at the side of the victim’s head before the offenders take the victim’s property. The offenders flee on foot or in a silver car, described as either a coupe or small sedan.

Superintendent Eddie Johnson is announcing today that the Chicago Police Department has taken more than 2,800 guns off the streets since the start of this year. The collection of these guns is a result of stepped up policing efforts, community-led gun buy-back events, and targeted organized crime initiatives.

Giovanni Garcia, 20 was arrested in connection to a fatal shooting incident that occurred on the 5400 block of S. Karlov on April 8, 2016 at approximately 7:00 p.m. during which he shot a 23-year-old female victim while she was seated in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she was later pronounced.

In these incidents, offender(s) gain entry into residential garages and take property from therein. These incidents have occurred at various hours of the day in the general geographical locations listed below:

This alert gives notice to citizens residing in the 15th District (Austin) of robbery related incidents that have occurred during the month of April. In these incidents, a group of unknown offenders, approximately 16-20 years of age, approach victims as they are waiting at a bus stop, and either display a handgun or batter the victims and take their property (cell phones and USC). This alert gives notice to the residents of the 16th District (Jefferson Park) of several residential burglaries that have occurred. In these incidents, unknown offender(s) have entered apartments and residences, through windows or doors, and have taken electronics, jewelry, cash, and other miscellaneous items.

Incident times and locations:

There have been several incidents that have occurred since March 20, 2016. These incidents have taken place on Beat 1624, within the boundaries of Cicero to Narragansett and Montrose to Irving Park Road, mostly during the day and early evening hours.

• 5100 block of W. Montrose on March 20, 2016 between 11:00 AM – 8:20 PM
• 5700 block of W. Montrose on March 21, 2016 between 5:30 PM – 7:20 PM
• 5700 block of W. Montrose on March 26, 2016 between 5:00 PM – 9:45 PM
• 4900 block of W. Cullom on April 07, 2016 between 7:45 AM – 1:00 PM

CHICAGO – The Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Organized Crime recently conducted a targeted mission to combat crime and violence in the 7th (Englewood), 8th(Chicago Lawn) and 9th(Deering) Districts. This mission was initiated at the behest of Interim Superintendent Johnson, due to the spike in violence in these targeted areas.
“The Chicago Police Department will continue to implement practices and missions aimed at reducing the crime and violence in our communities,” stated Interim Superintendent Johnson. “Enforcement missions, such as this one, will be part of an ongoing initiative to help further reduce the ability of gangs to inflict harm in Chicago’s neighborhoods.” For More Information Click Here
